foodie world. Whether it be smoothie,
acai, sushi or burrito, meals in a bowl
have taken off, and now consumers have
the option to consume this trend straight
from the frozen foods aisle.
Healthy Choice, a brand of Conagra
Brands, launched Power Bowls in May.
Made with a blend of whole grains, mixed
greens, vegetables and natural proteins,
Power Bowls are available in four varieties
including Adobo Chicken Bowl, Korean-Inspired Beef Bowl, Cuban-Inspired Pork
Bowl and Chicken Sausage & Barley Bowl.
Stouffer’s Fit Kitchen Bowls are another
hot new item from the Solon, Ohio-based
brand of Nestle USA. The product is composed of protein, vegetables and carbohydrates for a complete, balanced meal, each
with more than 20 grams of protein, say company officials. They are available in eight flavors including Steak Fajita, Teriyaki Chicken,
Pork Carnitas and Sweet and Spicy Meatballs.
In addition to healthy and clean offerings,
consumers are looking to diversify flavor portfolios and ethnic variety in the frozen aisle.
Packaging is very important in frozen foods,
as it is typically all the consumer can see
prior to purchasing. Schwan’s Pagoda
Asian Snacks line recently updated its
packaging to reflect the key messages of
the brand, which are created from pre-
mium meats and fresh cut vegetables that
are flash-frozen in-house daily. The key
callouts include no trans fats, artificial
flavors, MSG, preservatives or high fruc-
tose corn syrup.
This February, Pagoda introduced two
new styles of wontons, Korean Barbecue
Style Beef and Honey Sesame Chicken,
that were developed in response to the
growing consumer preference for Asian
tastes. Jessie Joslin, director of desserts
and Asian style snacks marketing for
Schwan, says “These new flavors are a
great example of our commitment to flavor
exploration driven by Millennials, a culturally diverse group that wants more ethnic and
global cuisine at retail.”
