Painting the Pet
Scarlett Pet Foods has repackaged its
MardiGras line of bird and small animal
foods, giving the line more pop on retail
shelves while also helping to answer consumer questions about the brand.
The Souderton, Pa.-based company offers
MardiGras in seven SKUs, including foods
for parrots, cockatiels, rabbits, hamsters and
gerbils, guinea pigs and canaries, finches and
parakeets. The seventh SKU is a fruit & nut
recipe designed for all animals. Six SKUs are
3-pounds each and the seventh is 2.5-pounds.
The line has a suggested retail price between
$4.99 and $11.99 each.

ket,” says Susan Parker, general manager of
the company. “It is the right size and priced

because it is a convenience item. Shoppers

food for these animals. If a supermarket has
it, and it is prominently placed, they will buy
Scarlett is part of Moyer & Son, a family-
owned business formed in 1869. “I think our
longevity plays a big role in our success right
now,” Parker adds. “People love that we are in
the sixth generation of the same family own-
ership and that we have a great track record
over the years.” —Seth Mendelson
