Hip Chick Farms, a manufacturer of organic, non-GMO
poultry products owned by women, has introduced its
Organic Gluten Free Chicken Meatballs, Organic Turkey Patties
and Organic Gluten Free Grilled Chicken Nuggets in 1,200
Kroger stores, including the Ralphs, Kroger, King Soopers and
“Hip Chick Farms started on the premise that every kid loves
a chicken nugget, but every parent is suspicious of what goes
into chicken nuggets, so we started with simple chicken fin-
gers made with whole muscle meat,” says Serafina Palandech,
who co-founded the Sebastopol, Calif.-based firm with her wife
Jennifer Johnson. “We are very concerned with animal welfare,
so all of our products are Certified Humane through the Global
Animal Partnership, and never use any fillers or preservatives.”
In 2015, Palandech notes, Hip Chick Farms presented to
Kroger. “They only wanted the organic line,” she says. “That
shows the direction that folks are headed in.”
