“Follow your gut” takes on a whole new meaning
in the world of Health & Wellness

It was once meant nothing more than intuition, but for today’s health-conscious consumers, “fol- lowing your gut” has become almost synonymous with following what has been called “the next big trend” in the health and wellness category.
“U.S. consumers have been utilizing different strategies in an attempt to manage their health through a
more calculated consumption of food and beverage,”
according to the “Gut Health: The Next Mega-Trend in
Health and Wellness” report from Schieber Research.
“Today, the emergence of scientific evidence on the role
of the human microbiome, and the importance of a
healthy gut, meets a consumer who is thirsty for weight
management and a bloat-free life. As a result, gut
health is fast becoming a new lifestyle approach that
will affect food and beverages, vitamins and supple-
ments, and beauty.”

A Google Trends analysis from June 2017 shows that
“gut health” and “bloating” are among the most-searched terms when it comes to using food to manage health. Search terms that indicate consumers’ rising
awareness of gut health, such as “leaky gut,” are growing too, the Schieber report says.
