Everyone’s heard “a stitch in time saves nine,”
but how about “stocking buy-the-piece fabrics
fattens the bottom line”?
According to officials at Littwin/Luxury
Fabrics, buy-the-piece fabrics have the ability
to sew up the high-margin impulse sales that
supermarket operators are craving.
Littwin/Luxury Fabrics sells assorted premium jacquards, regular jacquards, chenille,
velvet and textures fabrics in one- to three-yard lengths that officials say are ideal for
the supermarket channel. Each piece has a
suggested retail price of $5.99 and contains
an attached bar-coded UPC ticket for easy
scanning. The company has also created a
special 31-inch-by-19-inch-by-14-inch display box for the supermarket channel. It holds
20 pieces or approximately 50 yards total and
weighs 48 pounds.
“Every retailer wants to add something to
their product mix to boost both their volume
and profit,” says Steven I. Littwin, a principal
in Littwin/Luxury Fabrics, based in Riverdale,
N. Y. “This is ideal for the non-foods section
or the promotional aisle.”
Retailers can also get a boost now that
retailer Hancock Fabrics has filed for Chapter
XI bankruptcy protection and been liquidated.
“Our self-service home decorator fabrics are
perfect for making handbags, totes, valances,
pillows or designer chairs,” Littwin says.
