How have supermarket
equipment needs changed over
Tom Noonan: As supermarkets have
become more sophisticated over the
years, operating them has become
more complicated. The addition of
pizza ovens, coffee shops, more
freezer space—all of this can tax a
All the while, retailers are being
driven by shrinking margins, so we
have been working hard to help
them maintain an environment where
shoppers want to linger in their
stores. Our fans were designed as a
green solution to address universal
problems in grocery stores, and they
continue to do that—hot and cold
spots, sweating and fogging doors,
wet floors, mold and mildew buildup, and in general, narrowing the
temperature differential from floor
How does Air-Row Fans help
retailers solve these challenges?
Our role in balancing the store’s
environment is more important than
ever. In a recent survey, 78 percent
of shoppers named “a pleasant
atmosphere” as the most important
factor in choosing where to shop,
even beyond price.
That is where we lead—we know
store problems and we know how to
counter those problems. We consult
with retailers to make sure fans are
placed strategically. We also set
the fans at a speed to bring air to
the floor at a velocity that creates a
sound spread, but does not interfere
with refrigerated cases or other
devices. In short, we work hard
to create balance and to ensure a
comfortable shopping environment.
Talk about Air-Row’s history.
Our roots are in the supermarket
industry. We are veterans, with
20-plus years of experience with
de-stratification fans. We brought
our fans in from the back door and
have spent decades servicing this
industry. We are a custom shop and
manufacture our own products. In
this way, we have been able to test
and make constant refinements to
our design based on the problems
we have encountered servicing the
industry. In many ways, our products
have evolved with customer demand.
When our customers wanted speed
control, we innovated speed control.
When our customers wanted a tilt
and rotate device to target air more
specifically, we developed that. We
have grown in this industry by solving problems.
What is the name Air-Row
Air-Row, short for “air rotation,”
equals targeted air movement. We
are the missing piece of the HVAC
process. We use the trapped air at
the ceiling and allow the big rooftop
units to cycle down. We move
more air with less power than any
player in our market segment. Our
fans are made of durable metal and
come standard with multi-speed EC
motors. Our fans are also priced
competitively to allow a good ROI
for supermarket owners.
What other features make Air-
Row fans stand out?
Our fans have a long life. We have
fans in stores that have been running for a decade or more. This is
because they are manufactured with
quality materials—a durable metal
design with an EC motor.
Our goal is to continue to make
our fans as field serviceable as
possible. Our fans can be easily
accessed by technicians, they can
be opened up and cleaned, a motor
can be changed out… there is a lot
we can do.
We also continue to work with
retailers on custom designs and
painting our fans to their specifications. We can powder coat the fan
to match store décor, company colors, or blend in to ceiling designs.
