VIRTUAL TEA TIME
Look for the Tetley Tea Folks to liven up the tea
aisle at the local supermarket, now that Tetley
Tea Co. has teamed with Tensator, which has
created an animated Virtual Assistant in the
form of Ga;er, Tetley’s iconic brand character.
According to o;cials with Bayshore, N. Y.-based Tensator, the Tensator Virtual Assistant
is next-generation digital signage that uses
cutting-edge technology to project an image
and create the illusion of a real person or
animated character, bringing messages to life
and engaging customers with consistent and
clear communications in any language.
Ga;er is the head of the “Tetley Tea Folk,”
animated characters used by the Montvale, N.J.-
based company in advertising and who “work” in
the tea factory. Tetley is developing a number of
initiatives to enhance shopper engagement, and
the animated Tensator Visual Assis-
tant will be used as a promotional
tool to attract shoppers and point
them to special o;ers.
“The development is part of
our program to create a sense of
theater at the point of purchase
and stimulate interest in tea”
says Andrew Pearl, director, and
customer and shopper marketing head for Tetley USA. “It’s really
an engaging promotional tool.
The built-in sensor tells Ga;er
when he is on his own so he can
call out to any passerby to get them to come
over and look at the current tea o;ers he has
on his iPad. A number of di;erent scripts have
been developed for him and we can manage
these remotely to ensure that he is as up to the
minute as possible.”
The portable unit has lockable wheels and
takes up only 20 square inches of ;oor space.
